About Knitting & Sewing

by Rena

Hi and thank you for visiting this website. This is a short introduction to the head Blogger Rena and her passion for knitting and sewing. Her mother, who was an accomplished sewer and knitter, introduced Rena to the world of knitting and sewing. Together with her mother, they opened a knitting shop in the early 80′s. Here they provided both customized individual lessons and group lessons in addition to creating custom knitwear for their exclusive clients. The shop was located in the front part on the Pfaff Industrial Sewing Centre in Vancouver B.C.

The opportunity to work along side her mother enabled her to gain the incredibly valuable knowledge of the crafts of both hand and machine knitting. Her fashion designing talent was soon noticed by the fashion world. This led to a regular column called, “Needlepoints”, in the Vancouver Sun newspaper. Needlepoints offered original designs and free patterns that were received by a wide range of knitting enthusiasts across the province of British Columbia, Canada. Participation in large public venues, teaching in night school and hosting workshops for machine knitters as well as producing a line of one of a kind custom knits were Rena’s forte.

After 11 years of success and three storefronts, Rena and her Mom closed their store. Rena continued to freelance design for her exclusive clientele and became a full time mother.
The next endeavour was to the sewing industry, where she managed one of Vancouver’s most popular sewing machine stores. It was during this period that she became familiar with today’s current sewing, embroidery, and serger technology and worked along side some of the highest regarded instructors in the sewing industry. Developing ongoing workshops, introducing classes and the Sew Happy Birthday Parties for kids ages 6-12 are some of her accomplishments.

Rena is now proud to offer her assistance and thoughtful tips and hints through this website, knittingsewing.com.
